Dr Glory Dee Romo | Philippines

Dr Glory Dee Romo is an Associate Professor V at the School of Management, University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao where she teaches in the Master in Management program and is heavily involved in research projects and extension services.

Skilled in complex adaptive system thinking, strategic planning, value chain and gender studies Glory Dee is driven to build partnerships that support women’s empowerment and business continuity planning.

Glory Dee is leading multiple research projects related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020 she received an ACIAR Alumni Support Facility grant to conduct a quick-turn-around project titled “Enhancing the strengths and mitigating vulnerabilities across the food processing value chain”. A second is titled “SAVE Food Systems: Strengthening Against Vulnerabilities and Externalities of Food Systems” and has been funded by an Australian Alumni COVID-19 response grant, managed by Coffey International Development.

Glory Dee was the Community Convenor of the Social Development Community of Practice of the Australia Alumni Communities of Practice Philippines (AACPh)  in its first year from 2020 to 2021. She helped craft the vision for the Social Development Community of Practice which is ‘A network that nurtures and enhances social capital that bridges the Australia alumni to the larger community to create and sustain positive impact to all Filipinos.‘

In addition Glory Dee is a member of the Office of Gender and Anti Sexual Harassment Council at UP Mindanao and has been an advocate for gender equality and ending violence against women and children. To support this work, Glory Dee has developed a course for the BS Agribusiness Economics that focuses on women, “The Economics of Gender in Agribusiness Development.”

Glory Dee undertook a BS Business Economics at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Then she completed her Master in Management at the University of the Philippines Mindanao and Diplomas in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Southeastern Philippines. Supported by an ACIAR John Allwright Fellowship, Glory Dee was able to purse PhD at The University of Queensland, Brisbane. Complementing her acceptance as a Meryl Williams Fellow in 2021, Glory Dee is now also enrolled in a Diploma in Gender and Development at the University of the Philippines Open University.

Amongst all that, Glory Dee finds time when she can to bask in the sun, enjoy nature, meet family and friends, and volunteer for women’s causes.

She is amongst eight women from the Philippines to be awarded a Meryl Williams Fellowship by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in 2021.
